Sometimes the internet just amazes me. My friend Liu just told me that he read about my work on a Chinese photo blog last night. He sent the link and indeed they wrote quite a bit about me and this photo taken in the Forbidden City in 2006.

Timberbrit

Here's an announcement from my friend Jacob. I helped him photograph Timberbrit for the poster.

Timberbrit
Britney Spears has lately become an almost fictional character for us, her tumultuous personal life providing constant entertainment and making us wonder what she could possibly do next. Timberbrit gives Britney and her erstwhile lover Justin Timberlake the extra push they need to enter the realm of the imaginary. The story takes place in the near future: Britney’s relentless spiral into disgrace has propelled her to her final hours, and Justin, prompted by her imminent demise, expresses his undying love for her and attempts to win her back. The music, inspired by slowed-down versions of the two pop stars’ once-breezy tunes, is sometimes beautiful, sometimes haunting, and always a bit deranged. Timberbrit is of our time but completely novel; it is about our world but totally unfamiliar.

Unclutter with Catalog Choice

I sent my sister a Victoria's Secret gift card for her birthday last month and now I'm receiving 3 catalogs from them a week! Utter ridiculousness! It was driving me nuts so I finally took action and signed up with Catalog Choice for their services. "Catalog Choice is a free service that lets you decline paper catalogs that you no longer wish to receive. Reduce the amount of unsolicited mail in your mailbox, while helping to preserve the environment."

Otomi Coverlets

Design Sponge wrote up a source for the beautiful Otomi textiles that I've dreamed about for the last two years. I think I will wait for a nice trip to Mexico to look for one, or two... I can just imagine a yellow one in my bedroom.

Courtyard hotels in Beijing

For Beijing, I wanted to stay in a courtyard hotel, to have the charms of an intimate guest house in a big city. A quick google search led me to Sino Hotel which helped me book Zhongtang , a nice siheyuan (a compound with houses around a square courtyard). The service was excellent and included a nice breakfast. The room was clean, cozy, well decorated, and most importantly- warm! (It was the last week of the year afterall.) They helped book a Great Wall tour (Simatai section- less touristy and spectacularly steep), and I would definitely recommend this little charming place.

Peep

I caught a cold in China and it seems to have resurrected itself over the weekend. It's driving me nuts since I've managed not to get sick for years now. So I'm trying to get on the mend, sucking on cough drops. I have a bunch of other travel plans coming up in the next two months so I've been organizing for those trips. Sorry it's been quiet, it might stay that way for a bit with an occasional peep.

Wave bag

Holly at Decor8 has been posting Baby & Kids Shop online guides. A good source, but what really caught my eye is this great bag from Nonchalant Mom along with all the great adult clothes they carry. The print is so lovely. And a green interior? How could you make me any happier?

Happy 2008!

I'm back in town after spending a long 10 days in China, more than half of which I was a bit under the weather (My Mom as well). I got to spend some good quality time with my Mom and that side of my family. Here's a photo of my Mom freezing on the Great Wall and being a good sport about the climb at the Simatai section.
