One grilled fish

I went out to a Greek restaurant in Astoria by the name of Elias Corner last night with my sister and some friends. There is no menu so you have no idea how much you are spending, plus it's cash only. It started off fairly nice with two salads, grilled eggplant, fried eggplant, fried zucchini, calamari, tzatziki. We all ordered grilled Mediterranean striped bass. Our waitress gave hit or miss service every time she came to the table and finally when time to pay the check came, the money was handed to her, and she proceeded to count out the cash in front of us, then demanded a 20% tip. We had tipped around 15%. This is a first, maybe the last.

No more plastic bags!

I got my very own Envirosax from Maria just a bit ago. I love it! I use a bunch of old totes when I go shopping but I have to say the Envirosax is sooo nice because it folds up tiny, can get thrown in to my bag where ever I go, and opens up to a nice, big sturdy bag. Love it! Thanks Lady!

Rear Window

This morning, I watched Hitchcock's Rear Window for the first time. I loved the setup of the courtyard and the surrounding buildings. It was amusing when the film began and I find James Stewart playing a photographer. Well, I had a bit of real life window excitement just a bit ago when I heard several fire trucks outside. A building across the street from ours was on fire, I don't think anyone was hurt, the fire was put out within 5-10 minutes. There was a bunch of smoke shooting out of the windows and about seven firetrucks out there along with some onlookers. The house probably suffered from more water damage than smoke or fire. The windows are all smashed. I took some photos from my window.

Oh, I also think Grace Kelly is gorgeous and great in the movie.

Linen Boxes

I'm loving these netto storage boxes from design public, especially the yellow one. I need something like this for under the bed storage.

New show and small website update

I will be in the 16th Annual Juried Modern and Contemporary Show at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The show will open on April 4 and be up until April 24th.

Moving Forwarard, Standing Still is a new section that I just added to my website. I plan on editing down other parts of my website and adding some statements.

Upholstered Headboard

I've been thinking about making a new upholstered headboard for some time now. I think I will work on this in April. I did some research and found some pretty good directions on Better Homes and Gardens and Apartment Therapy. The Apartment Therapy directions has an interesting mounting bracket that I might try, while I really like the slipcovered idea of the BH&G one.

Eyelet lantern

If we didn't have so many ceiling fans in our apartment I'd put in some of these eyelet lanterns. So chic, simple and affordable.

I am so psyched that Ian and Domingo are part of PDN's 30! Congrats guys! Ian has been working hard printing for his solo show that's coming up at Jen Bekman's, I think it will open March 21. If you happen to be in Philly, check out Ian's work on view now at the Ice Box through March 16 in You Might Find Yourself.

Sasha Bezzubov

I bumped into my friend Sasha at the lab last night. It's been a couple of years since we last saw each other. He's been quite busy, and even lived in India for a year. He has two shows coming up. The first one is at Wave Hill- Sound the Alarm: Landscapes in Distress March 8- June 1. I'm so glad I have an extra reason to visit Wave Hill, something I've been meaning to do for years, it is in the Bronx afterall. He is also having a show with his wife Jessica Sucher at Front Room in Williamsburg. April 11-May 4. We have so much catching up to do!

A Pool in Queens- did someone hear my prayers?

I've been lamenting about the lack of pools in Queens for-like-ever. Now there is a brand new one! A super duper one opened up in Flushing Meadows Park last Friday. There's a write up in the NYTimes. There is just not enough parks and recreational space in Queens, and while Flushing Meadows is huge, it is quite over used. There isn't much free lawn space when you go there on the weekends. This is a huge step in the right direction, I have hope for my borough!
